Vaginal discharge as we have indicated is usually transparent, viscous and without any odor. However, it is a substance that is subject to our hormonal changes, so sometimes its characteristics may change. Clear fluid flow during pregnancy
Have you had this type of discharge during pregnancy and are you worried that something might be wrong? Don't worry, as during this stage it is quite common for women to experience a very watery vaginal discharge.
During pregnancy, especially during the second trimester of gestation, it is quite normal for some women to have a fairly liquid discharge, with a whitish and odorless tone. This phenomenon is caused by the increase in estrogen levels during pregnancy, which also causes the flow to be more abundant.
However, we must be careful if this type of secretions occur from the 37th week of pregnancy, since, in this case, it can be caused by a premature rupture of the membrane or bag of the waters. Liquid flow like water with sex
Sex can also be among the causes why vaginal discharge becomes liquid, especially during two phases: arousal and climax.
As we announced at the beginning of this article, vaginal discharge plays a very important role and is about producing a natural lubrication, which increases when a woman is aroused by sex. Thanks to this abundant and watery flow, the woman will have a much more pleasant sexual intercourse.
On the other hand, we can also experience this watery secretion during a sexual phenomenon that we know as female ejaculation. This happens when the woman reaches climax, which activates the glands of the urethra that originate a very liquid substance that will be expelled through the vagina during orgasm.
Liquid flow like water from medicines
Taking some medications can alter the texture of your vaginal discharge. This happens especially in women who take birth control pills, since it is a hormonal treatment, so the alteration of these levels could be causing a more liquid vaginal discharge than normal.
In addition to a watery vaginal discharge, birth control pills can also cause other changes in your secretions, such as orange blood during menstruation, vaginal dryness, or even brown bleeding between periods.
Other causes of very abundant aqueous flow
The causes that we have explained in the previous cases about why vaginal discharge can be very liquid are within those that we could consider as common or normal. However, if in addition to being watery, the vaginal secretions are not being transparent or have an unpleasant smell, it could be a symptom that you are suffering from some type of infection in the vagina area. Among the infections that cause fluid flow along with other symptoms, we find:
- Genital herpes: it consists of an infection where a kind of blisters appear both on the vulva and in the perineal area. In this case, vaginal discharge in addition to being watery is also characterized by being very scarce.
- Adnexitis: is an inflammation caused by a bacterial infection such as chlamydia or gonococcia. In this type of case, the flow is liquid, of very variable consistency and with a greenish tone due to suppuration in the area.
- Endometritis: it is a disorder that inflames the lining of the uterus and causes abdominal pain and the secretion of very liquid and brown vaginal discharge. It can happen both in the middle of the menstrual cycle and at the end of the period.
